Sukabumi, July 1, 2025 - The revalidation of the Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu UNESCO Global Geopark (CPUGGp) continues to deliver proud moments. After visiting the Geopark Information Center (PIG) in Palabuhanratu, the UNESCO assessor team of Bojan Rezun (Slovenia) and Zhang Chenggong (China), accompanied by Prof. Mega F. Rosana from Padjadjaran University, continued their exploration to one of the most iconic geosites: Puncak Darma.
Situated at an altitude of over 200 meters above sea level, Puncak Darma offers a stunning panorama of the Ujung Genteng landscape to Ciletuh Bay. The combination of unique geology, pristine tropical forests, and dramatic coastlines make this location a world-renowned natural masterpiece.
Both assessors expressed awe and awe. "The view from Puncak Darma is truly extraordinary. This is not just a tourist destination, but an open window that reveals the history of the earth in its most aesthetic form," said Zhang Chenggong. Bojan Rezun added that locations like Puncak Darma hold extraordinary potential for geological education as well as world-class ecotourism development. "This geosite is highly representative. The landscape is both scientifically and emotionally powerful—a rare combination."
The Head of the Sukabumi Regency Tourism Office, Sendi Apriadi, S.STP., M.Si., welcomed the assessments from the assessors. He emphasized that Puncak Darma is not only a geological pride but also a strategic icon for sustainable tourism development.
"Puncak Darma is the face of Sukabumi tourism: beautiful, authentic, and with a strong geological story. We are building access, facilities, and fostering local communities so that the benefits are directly felt by the community. This is a concrete example of conservation- and empowerment-based tourism," said Sendi.
The optimism surrounding this revalidation process is not merely about maintaining UNESCO status, but more importantly, as a way to re-ground our perspective on how to redefine the ecosystem for natural sustainability, while also actualizing community empowerment towards prosperity. This revalidation is not merely an administrative assessment, but rather a concrete manifestation of a shared commitment that the earth's heritage is not to be hoarded, but rather to be preserved, studied, and sustainably utilized by current and future generations.
